About the Position

Specialty Systems, Inc. has an immediate opening for a Software Engineer with the below described skill set and experience to join our team of technical professionals supporting our efforts in the modernization of systems and innovation initiatives for the Department of Defense. In this position, you will have a role within the software team supporting the architecture definition, development, and implementation of systems that have a direct impact on our country’s warfighting and peace-keeping capabilities. This position is located at our Toms River location, this position also offers the opportunity to work remotely two days per week.

Job responsibilities will include:

· Participate in capability needs assessments, requirements definition, and enterprise architecture activities to deliver customer solutions.

· Develop and deliver software requirements, design, and testing specifications.

· Utilize design patterns, lean programming, and other software development best practices.

· Perform software programming, technical testing, and implementation activities.

· Participate in software reviews, sprint reviews, and other agile events.

· Utilize open source software and integrate into the application solution being developed.

· Integrate work products into the DevSecOps pipeline. Utilize feedback from the pipeline to automate and improve software product quality.

· Work as a productive member of the team and provide mentorship to other junior team members as needed.

· Take initiative to research new solutions and recommend approaches to accomplish project goals more effectively.

· Continually learn and adapt to new and emerging technologies as required.

Position Qualification Requirements:

Education, Certifications and Years of Experience:

· A BS/BA in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related STEM discipline is required. Exceptional technical skills and experience may be considered in lieu of the degree requirement.

· 2-5 years of experience performing applicable software development. It is preferred that at least 1 year of this experience be on Department of Defense systems.

· Preference will be given to candidates with an active security clearance at the Secret level or higher. Candidates without a security clearance will be considered, however, this may delay the ability to actually begin employment.

Technical:

· Experience developing software applications using object oriented programming languages such as, Java, C++, and C#

· Proficiency in JavaScript, including DOM manipulation, the JavaScript object model and CSS is a plus

· Experience with Angular and React is helpful

· Experience with Server-Side Frameworks, such as Spring Boot is a plus

· Experience working with databases such as SQL, MySQL, Oracle, etc.

· Familiarity with RESTful APIs

· Experience with common front-end development tools such as Webpack, NPM, etc. is helpful

· Experience working in the Windows and Linux environment

· Familiarity with code versioning tools, such as Git

· Background working in a DevSecOps environment with CI/CD Pipeline knowledge is helpful

· Knowledge of Microservices concepts, Application Containerization and Container Orchestration technologies is a plus

· Experience developing software applications for complex, software intensive systems for Department of Defense applications is preferred.

· Experience implementing cybersecurity strategies is a plus

Salary Range

This position has a salary range of between $80,000 and $120,000, based on the candidate's match to the skill and experience levels required.
