Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. has an immediate opportunity for a Senior Shift Manager Maintenance at our Toledo, OH HBI location. The Senior Shift Manager Maintenance will provide mechanical support to increase efficiency, quality and productivity across IronUnits direct reduction process. The Senior Shift Manager Mechanical will have direct oversite of the mechanical work and have significant input into planning, scheduling and directing the execution of work through Shift Mechanical Managers. This position will apply operational knowledge and mechanical skills in the identification and resolution of both technical and personnel issues affecting the operation working closely with Mechanical and Operating groups to recommend and resolve deviations from plan.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Lead and promote Iron Units health, safety, and environment policies and procedures
  • Ensure daily and weekly maintenance schedules are executed
  • Responsible for ensuring cohesion across mechanical crews including assignment of craftsmen to jobs, reviewing scope of work, identifying and communicating changes to plan, verifying availability of materials and tools, and confirming schedule viability
  • Coordinate with Mechanical shift supervisors on execution of work and performance on backshifts
  • Identify deviations from maintenance plan and assign tasks appropriately to correct or minimize impact
  • Optimize the utilizations of craftsman and ensure crews are executing work correctly and consistently via Shift Managers Mechanical
  • Establish high performance standards and set goals to attain them
  • Provide leadership to team of direct reports, so that they are clear about their role purpose, level of work, and task assignments
  • Ensure the appropriate technical resources are notified and consulted to test and evaluate equipment as appropriate
  • Ensure accurate and complete data is captured regarding repair work, equipment data, changes to plan, and recommendations for future work
  • Create and maintain a proactive focus towards mechanical maintenance
  • Develop and report assigned performance measures and utilize information to identify and institute improvements
  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators on a continuous basis in order to gauge efficiency and cost effectiveness within the maintenance process cycle of work identification, planning, scheduling, work execution, and continuous improvement. Actively provide feedback on performance of maintenance process and sub processes that impact execution
  • Be an on-call resource for mechanical trouble shooting
  • Administer corporate, site, and departmental policies, work procedures and systems fairly
  • Provide support and fill in as required for Mechanical Section Manager

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree in business, or related field. May consider equivalent experience.
  • Journeyman Millwright, Welder or Iron Worker
  • 5 -7 years of experience in heavy industrial environment preferably steel, hydrocarbon or mining environment
  • Strong mechanical background (preferably with experience in pipe materials, specifications, fittings, seals, water piping/pumping systems, compressible fluid piping/pumping systems, welding, conveying equipment, gearing/bearings/power transmission, rigging/iron working, machining procedures, tolerances, use of power/hydraulic tools, high temperature refractory clipping and refractory
  • Experience overseeing, leading, and coaching people
  • Microsoft Office experience (Excel, Word, etc.)
  • Strong report writing and verbal communication skills
  • Understanding of shop mathematics with the use of drawings, specifications, charts, tables, and precision measuring instruments
  • Operations will be performed 7 days a week 24 hours a day; therefore, continuous support is required including rotational weekend on call support
  • Ability to read and constructively influence personnel in team processes
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision and effectively manage multiple/changing priorities
  • Ability to read and understand O&M manuals
  • Ability to read and understand regulatory documents including API, ASME standards
  • Occasionally lifting up to 25lbs
  • Mobility required. Must be able to handle stairs and long periods of work on your feet
  • Routinely exposed to plant environment including noise, dust, dirt and vibrations, extreme climate changes / changes in weather
  • Ability to work at heights
